Note* Jacob Emanuel is the "patriarch" of this line of Emanuels in America. Family tradition says that Jacob came from Germany, lived in Virginia, and died in Ohio. Family tradition also says that this family may have been Jewish. If so, perhaps there is a connection with David Emanuel who was the first Jewish governer of Georgia in 1801. Currently I am researching early tax lists of Virginia for further clues.
