Note* from 17aug1861 to 9aug1865  Richard served in the Civil War in Co. E, Third IA Voluntee r Cavalry under Capt. Rezin Shelby. Enlisted at Drakesvill e, IA 17 Aug 1861, wounded at Moore's HIll, MO 02 Jul 186 2 when he was shot in the shoulder and head and all his tee th shot out. He returned to his regiment in the spring o f 1863. He was mustered out in Atlanta, GA 09 AUG 1865.
