I Joseph Gray of the county of Spencer and the State of Kentucky being in good Health and of a Sound mind and memory in which I thank God; And calling to mind the uncertainty of Human life and being disirous to dispose of all Such Worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath the Same in manner following. 1. First I give and bequeath to my son Josiah Gray one hundred and ninety acres of Land (excepting forty of the one hundred and ninety which I shall in another manner dispose of) and bounded as follows: Beginning on Brashears Creek at two Beech trees corner to my son Josiah Gray, thence N 2o E 228 poles to these Beech trees. NW corner to Bryants old line thence S 5o? E 62 poles to three Beech trees to R Kincades line thence with the same S51o W219 poles to three Beech trees corner to said Kincade thence with his line ??? W26 poles to a Beech tree corner to Elijah Stout's line thence with said Stout's line 145o W 117 poles to a Walnut in Hackberry the corner to Estate of my son Josiah Gray, thence the said Josiah Grays line S8o E223 poles to two Beech trees on the Bank of Brashears Creek thence down said Creek N 52o E 6 poles thence N 25o E 34 poles thence N 18o E 51 poles, thence N 72o E 26 poles, thence S 59o E 17 poles to the Beginning to him and his heirs forever. I also give and bequeath to my son Josiah Gray one negroe man named Archy. I also give and bequeath to my son Josiah Gray one Negroe man named Shelby to him and to his heirs forever. Second I give and bequeath to my Son Josiah Gray aslo twelve hundred Dollars to be appropriated to the tuition and Support of my Son John Gray Chelton/Cheltsea?.Third I leave tomy Daughter Polly Stout forty acres of Land to be taken off the South East corner of the one hundred and ninety acres (which is named int he first item) So as to include the dwelling she now lives in to hold & enjoy during her natural life: Andat the Death of my Daughter Polly Stout I give the Said Forty acres of Land to my son Joseph Gray to him and his heirs forever; I also Will and Bequeath to my Daughter Polly Stout one negroe Boy named Randolph; Also I give to my Daughter Polly one negroe woman named May and her future increases to her and her heirs forever. I also give my Daughter Polly one Bay mare called fancy. Fourth I will and bequeath to my Daughhter Elizabeth Eller one negro girl named Eliza which I had given her, also one Feather Bed and furniture, one horse, one cow 2 calf which property She received at her marriage. Fifth I will and bequeath to my Daughter Sally Holt one negroe Boy named Harry. Sixth I will and Bequeath to my Daughter Dooshey Cotrell one negroe Boy named Squire to her and her heir forever. Eighth I will and bequeath to my Daughter Lucinda onenegroe woman named Anna and her future increase Also one negroe man named Will, one negroe Boy named Zack and one negroe Boy named Jesse. Also one half of the household and kitchen furniture. Also I leave to my Daughter Lucinda one half of my dwelling during her single life. Also I will and bequeath to my Daughter Lucinda one negroe woman named Abby to her and her heirs forever. Ninth I will and bequeath to my GrandDaughter Elizabeth VanDyke one Negroe Boy named Ben to her and her heirs forever. Tenth after paying my just Debts and funeral expenses I will and bequeath the Balance of any property of any didscription to my Son Josiah Gray to him and his heirs forever. And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Josiah Gray and Elijah VanDyke Executors to this my last will and Testament and all others heretofore made. In witness whereof I have set my Hand and Seal this seventh day of May one thousand eight hundred and thirtyfive. Signed in the presence of Joseph Gray Joseph W. Alexander William Brown Will Book A page 534 At a County Court held for Spencer County on Monday the Second day of January 1837 This writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Joseph Gray Deceased was proved According to Law by the oaths of Joseph W. Alexander and William Brown witnesses thereto and is ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Josiah Gray one of the Executors therein named and who made oath thereto and together with Raphael Lancaster, William P. clarke and William Brown his ???? entered into and acknowledged their Bond in the penalty of $9000 Conditioned as the Law directs Certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probate of the Said Will in due form: Elijah VanDyke the other Executor named in the Said Will having appeared in Court and refused to take upon himself the burthen of the Execution thereof Attests Raph'l Lancaster CSCC Inventory and Appraisement.
